The VinylPlus Voluntary Commitment aims at putting the European PVC industry at the forefront of sustainable development by minimising the environmental impact of production and conversion, promoting the responsible use of additives, supporting collection and recycling schemes, increasing energy efficiency and reducing row material use, as well as encouraging social dialogue between all stakeholders.
The Commitment includes ambitious recycling targets, product stewardship initiatives, R&D and the promotion of a sustainable development culture. All targets are measurable and with defined deadlines. Achievements will be constantly reviewed against targets and reported in annual Progress Reports following the same system previously used for Vinyl 2010. Each report will be audited by external sources and approved by an independent Monitoring Committee composed of representatives from European institutions, trade unions, consumer associations, and the industry.
The first VinylPlus Progress Report has been issued in May 2012.
