Certifications and Traceability
Sustainability claims need to be credible, verifiable and useful in the market. VinylPlus supports certification schemes that help companies demonstrate responsible production, sustainable sourcing and traceability across the PVC value chain.
From certified PVC (vinyl) products for building and construction to upstream supplier certificates for additives and compounds, these schemes help converters, specifiers, public buyers and customers make informed choices based on recognised criteria and third-party assessment.

Certification That Supports Market Access
For PVC products, transparency is increasingly important in construction, procurement and investment decisions. Architects, developers and building owners are looking for materials that can contribute to recognised sustainability frameworks and help meet ESG-related requirements.
The VinylPlus® Product Label is a third-party-certified sustainability scheme for PVC products in the building and construction sector, developed with BRE and The Natural Step. It is recognised within BREEAM as a Responsible Sourcing Certification Scheme and has received European-level accreditation via Accredia.

“The VinylPlus® Product Label, as the first sustainability label for plastics recognised by BREEAM, qualifies PVC windows for use in sustainable buildings, securing market opportunities.”

- Enhances supply chain trust and market credibility

Digital Product Passports and Traceability
Digital Product Passports can strengthen traceability by making product information available across the value chain, including data on material composition, recycled content, sustainability performance and end-of-life options.
The VinylPlus® Digital Passport Programme supports this direction by exploring how digital product information can help companies prepare for emerging EU requirements, including the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and the Construction Products Regulation.
As part of this work, the Flex-ID project piloted Digital Product Passports for flexible PVC applications such as tarpaulins, cushion vinyl floor coverings and roofing membranes. The project provided practical insights into how product data can support transparency, circularity and improved product life-cycle management.

Why It Matters

For Specifiers and Public Buyers
Certification helps identify PVC products that meet recognised sustainability criteria and can contribute to responsible sourcing, Green Public Procurement and sustainable building assessment frameworks.

For Converters and Manufacturers
Certification creates a structured route to demonstrate product performance, responsible sourcing and value-chain transparency.

For Additive Producers and Compounders
Supplier Certificates provide a way to document sustainability performance and support downstream customers with credible, traceable information.

For the PVC Value Chain
Together, the VinylPlus® Product Label and VinylPlus® Supplier Certificates help move sustainability from general commitment to documented performance.

From Commitment to Verified Performance
The VinylPlus certification schemes help companies turn sustainability commitments into documented performance — supporting transparency, procurement readiness and trust across the vinyl value chain.
