Invitation at the ‘Future of Leadership is Now’ Seminar

15 February 2016

On 3rd February 2016, a seminar on how leaders can apply a unifying systems perspective on sustainability to improve business was held in Stockholm, Sweden.

The day-long meeting was organized by the StepWise group, in cooperation with The Natural Step (a Swedish sustainability development organization) and BTH (Blekinge Institute of Technology).

The StepWise group, which gathers a unique and growing group of corporate leaders and owners, learns how to
work with a Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development, including a robust definition of ecological and social sustainability and strategic guidelines. The group also explores how to design plans for change that contribute to society’s transition towards sustainability while being economically viable and competitive for companies.

The purpose of the seminar organized by the StepWise group was to bring people together with the shared purpose of taking action to promote a positive systems change for sustainability. The seminar was designed to engage leadership in all kinds of arenas and on different scales to work systematically and strategically towards sustainability.

The diverse group of stakeholders included leaders from private companies, public bodies, universities, associations, foundations as well as institutes.

The wide-ranging stakeholder conversation touched upon how to turn unsustainable organizations into sustainable ones as we move into increasingly sustainability-driven markets. The participants also identified some overriding challenges and opportunities for strategic leadership towards sustainability in general and discussed additional activities to enhance sustainability together in 2016 and onwards.

Brigitte Dero, General Manager of VinylPlus, expressed appreciation to have been given the opportunity to engage a direct dialogue with a number of corporate leaders from all kinds of arenas and scales: “This has been an excellent event, which helped me enormously to feel part of a bigger sustainability picture in which we all have an important role to play.”
