Recognition as “Highly Commended” entry by The Circulars
The Circulars, the world’s premier circular economy award programme, is an initiative of the World Economic Forum and the Forum of Young Global Leaders, and gives recognition to those businesses, organisations and individuals that have distinguished themselves in driving innovation and growth in the circular economy.
This year, VinylPlus –has been recognised as “highly commended” entry, for the category ‘Award for Circular Economy Governments, Cities and Regions’, for supporting an enabling environment for the circular economy to develop and flourish.

It is a learning-by-doing process, and in a certain way it helps to reshape the PVC value chain in Europe. It also demonstrates that trade associations and industry voluntary programmes can play an important role in reaching out also to SMEs and helping them achieving significant environmental targets in their transition toward a circular and greener economy.”
The European PVC industry, through the VinylPlus Voluntary Commitment, is an important contributor to the Circular Economy, promoting full life cycle thinking, striving for resource- and energy efficiency and ensuring continuous growth in the recycling of PVC. In 2016, almost 570,000 tonnes of PVC were recycled in Europe. In the past 16 years the PVC industry has invested strongly in developing an effective recycling system, which has resulted in more than 3.5 million tonnes of recycled PVC since 2000. VinylPlus’ target is to recycle 800,000 tonnes a year by 2020.
VinylPlus is helping creating a long-term sustainability framework and moving the European PVC industry towards ‘a circular and greener economy’. Efficient recycling contributes to the preservation of natural resources and significantly reduces landfill volumes for PVC. It prevents a substantial amount of greenhouse gases and significantly reduces energy consumption. It represents a real opportunity for Europe to stimulate growth, innovation and investment in the recycling sector.
