VinylPlus endorses Antwerp Declaration for European Industrial Deal

23 February 2024

Today, VinylPlus® has declared its support for the Antwerp Declaration, emphasising the necessity for a competitive and resilient EU industry to align with the European Green Deal.

Charlotte Röber, Managing Director of VinylPlus, echoed the sentiment, stating, "VinylPlus endorses the Antwerp Declaration, advocating for a competitive, resilient EU industry enabling the implementation of the European Green Deal. We echo the call for a clear and strong European industrial policy that is also the backbone of social, economic, and environmental sustainability in the European PVC sector providing increasingly sustainable solutions across vital sectors."

The Antwerp Declaration was presented at the European Industry Summit on 20 February 2024 and has already garnered 100+ signatures across 18 sectors. The Declaration emphasises the urgent need for clarity, predictability, and confidence in Europe's industrial policy. As articulated by Belgian PM Alexander De Croo, Europe's industry is essential for innovation and the development of tomorrow's climate solutions.

In light of the ambitious targets for climate neutrality by 2050, and the recent 2040 target announcement, Europe's industry faces unprecedented challenges. With increasing pressure from the US and China, coupled with economic downturns and shifting investment landscapes, European industries are at a critical juncture.

VinylPlus' endorsement of the Antwerp Declaration underscores the commitment of the PVC industry to increasingly sustainable solutions across vital sectors such as healthcare, construction, food, digital infrastructure, and mobility. As Europe navigates its industrial transition, cohesive policies that prioritise sustainability, competitiveness, and resilience will be paramount.
